Translation Files

The following text files are needed for mapping chart features and attributes to HCRF features. All files can be reconfigured to meet special requirements for chart production.

Description

caris2hcrf_countries.txt

This file maps a two-digit CARIS producing agency code to a two-digit HCRF country of origin code.

The CARIS producing agency code comes from the producing agency file.

The HCRF country of origin code comes from the COUNTRY.TAB file.

The file uses the following format:

CARIS producing agency code | HCRF country of origin code

For example:

GB|GB

CA|CA

caris2hcrf_horizontalDatums.txt

This file maps a four-digit CARIS datum code to a three-digit HCRF spheroid code and to a three-digit HCRF datum code.

The CARIS datum code comes from the datum.dat file.

The HCRF spheroid code comes from the hcrfspheriods.txt file.

The HCRF datum code comes from the HORDAT.TAB file.

The file uses the following format:

CARIS datum code|HCRF spheroid code|HCRF datum code

For example:

CL40|00|UND

AIRY|01|OGB

AS66|16|AUA

AS84|16|AUG

caris2hcrf_projections.txt

This file maps an HPD projection to a three-digit HCRF projection code.

The CARIS HPD code comes from the PROJCTN attribute values.

The HCRF Projection code comes from the PROJCODE.TAB file.

The file use the following format:

CARIS HPD code|HCRF Projection code

For example:

MERCATOR|MC

POLAR STEREOGRAPHIC|PG

TRANSVERSE MERCATOR|TC

caris2hcrf_verticialDatums.txt

This file maps HPD vertical datums to HCRF vertical datums.

HPD does not have predefined codes for vertical datums so values are read from attributes such as DEPDAT and HGHTDA.

The HCRF spheroid code comes from the VERDAT.TAB file.

The file uses the following format:

CARIS datum code|HCRF datum code

For example:

undetermined|00

ALWS|01

AMLLW|02

AMLW|03

AMLWS|04

caris2hcrf_spatialMetadata.txt

This file maps an HPD acronym to an HCRF data type.

The HPD acronyms comes from the HPD catalogue.

The file uses the following format:

HCRF Datatype HPD Acronym

note that the order is reversed in this file)

For example:

RNCCHART $rncchart

RNCPANEL $rncpanel

RNCSUBPANEL $rncsubpanel

hcrfSpheroids.txt

This file maps an HCRF code to an HCRF spheroid name. The file serves the same purpose as a TAB file but is not needed for an HCRF distribution.

The file uses the following format:

HCRF code|HCRF Name

For example:

00|Not Applicable

01|AIRY (1830) HOTINE

02|CLARKE 1858 MODIFIED

03|CLARKE 1866
