Catalogues

Features and attributes in products and external files are defined through XML catalogues in the system directory.

A catalogue is composed of:

A dictionary that defines the available features and attributes.

A profile that defines the links between features and attributes, including relationships and allowed primitives, and the list of features and attributes to be used.

Catalogues control definitions for the following data types:

Stand-alone Hydrographic Object Binary (HOB) files

S‑57 Ed. 3.0/3.1 ENC data

S‑57 Additional Military Layers (AML)

CARIS Notebook Markers

The catalogues are accessed through a control file (cataloguecontrol.xml) that links data being opened in or imported into Compose with the appropriate catalogue.

Because catalogues are in XML format, custom catalogues for special hydrographic products, such as Marine Information Overlays (MIO), can be created. These products must be listed in the catalogue control file.

These product types, dictionaries, and profiles are accessed through cataloguecontrol.xml.

Interchange Feature Format

HOB data is associated with one of the above formats using the Select Catalogue dialog box. The features in the data set must be identical to those in the selected dictionary and profile.

When a file is opened and a catalogue cannot be automatically chosen, the Select Catalogue dialog box is displayed.

Two dictionaries are used to define an AML 3.0 CLB product (s5731Pool.xml and AML_3_0_ExtensionDict.xml). The product is further defined by the ProductSpecDescription (Product Specification Description or PSDN) attribute.1

1 The Product Specification Description attribute is only used for AML 3.0 products.
