Feature Editing : Introduction

Introduction

You can use the CARIS Feature Editing module to add individual features to an existing data set. You can add features directly to some file types, such as CARIS maps, but for other files, you will have to add the features to a temporary layer then validate them and import them into the data set.

Tools and menu items of the Feature Editing module may not appear, or may appear greyed out unless:

• The license for the Feature Editing module is activated.

• The Feature Editing module has been turned on.

• The application has been restarted after these changes were made.

See Modules for more information on enabling and disabling modules.

In general, you add a feature by selecting the Create command for the specific feature type then using one or more Digitize commands to create the spatial representation of the feature. Once created, the feature can be edited using one of the Edit commands.

Existing features can also be edited. Usually this would be done by copying them to a temporary layer, editing them there, then validating them and importing them back to the original data set.

Feature types you can add are:
