Key

<S>

Snap a vertex to an existing feature or vertex while creating a new feature or when using the Measure Distance and Angle command.

Snapping does not change the existing feature.

Snapping uses the following symbols to indicate the kind of vertex you are snapping to:

Snap to

Symbol

Start node of an edge

End node of an edge

Intermediate edge vertex

Nearest edge vertices

Vertex

Point or sounding

To cycle through multiple vertices in close proximity, press <Space> several times until the desired vertex is highlighted.

You can choose to snap automatically with specific node types in the Edit Options tab of the Options dialog box.

Procedure: Snap while creating a feature

1. [Optional] Make a layer the snap/grab target.

2. Add any necessary points.

3. Press and hold <S>.

4. Press and hold the mouse button

5. Move the cursor over the feature you want to snap to.

6. Release the mouse button and the <S> key when the vertex you want is highlighted.

Procedure: Snap while editing a feature

1. Select the Edit Mode command.

2. Select a vertex on an existing area or line feature or select the point of a point feature.

3. Press and hold <S>.

4. Drag the vertex towards the feature you want to snap to.

5. Release the mouse button and the <S> key when the vertex you want is highlighted.
