Sample Data Files

The installation of CARIS applications provides a SampleData folder:

C:\ProgramData\CARIS\<application>\<version>\SampleData

This folder contains sample files that can be used with the various tool sets that make up the modules in the application, such as the Engineering Analysis Module™ (EAM). Different files are provided with different modules.

To use the sample files, they must be updated to match your file names and structure. To do this you can either:

edit the files directly with values for your data

copy the files and edit the copied versions

create new files using the sample files as references

It is recommended that you keep a backup of the sample files if you are editing the files directly.

Some of the files provided in the SampleData folder are:

DepthListSample.txt: This is a basic text file that contains a list of depth values. This file can be used by the Contour Wizard when the Contour levels file option is used. These values define the levels at which to create contours. See Contouring for more information on this tool.

publication_text_object_lists.xml: This file is used by default with the New Publication tool. It controls the options that are displayed in the List and Value drop-down lists in the Text field objects group box. The Publication List File environment variable in Options tells the application where to find this file. You can edit this file or create your own file to define the values that will be available when creating publications. See Publication for more information on this tool.

shoalestdepth.crfx: This is a simple rule file that could be used in a Combine operation to select the shallowest node as the winner node. See Combine Coverages for more information on this tool.

xyz++formatinformationfile.info: This is a complex format information file used to import data into a CARIS application. This file tells the application how to upload the latitude, longitude and elevation values from the source data. It also includes mapping information for specific attribute acronyms. Additional attributes can be defined if desired. This file can be used with the Import Wizard. See Import Wizard for more information on this tool.

xyz++formatinformationfile_colour.info: This is a format information file used to import data into a CARIS application. This files tells the application how to upload the latitude, longitude and RGB colour values from the source data. This file can be used with the Import Wizard. See Import Wizard for more information on this tool.

xyzformatinformationfile.info: This is a basic format information file used to import data into a CARIS application. This files tells the application how to upload the latitude, longitude and elevation values from the source data but does not define any special attributes. This file can be used with the Import Wizard. See Import Wizard for more information on this tool.

zerotide.tid: This is a tide file that contains data required to apply a vertical shift to a surface to allow for changes in tide. This file can be used with the Shift Elevation Bands tool with the Single tide station observations option selected. This file can be edited to include values relevant to your data. See Shift Elevation Bands for more information on this tool.

*.processmodel: A number of process model files are provided with the installation. These files can be run from a Teledyne Geospatial CARIS application to perform processing on a data source. The settings in the files will need to be adjusted to match the file locations and specifics of the data source. These files can also be used as templates to create new models in Process Designer.
