Product templates classify features for inclusion in or exclusion from specific paper charts or vector products. Templates are associated with custom or standard profiles.
Default product templates are included with the installation. Product templates are optional and features are not required to be associated with templates.
A Feature Mapping Rule File can be associated with a vector product template, the mapping rule will be applied when creating or updating a product. If no mapping is set, and a conversioncontrol.xml is set it will be used instead. Otherwise no mapping will be applied with the product template.
Custom product templates can also be created. See the example below.

Example
A Paper Chart profile might include features relevant only to small craft charts. One feature is the Safe Diving Zone area. This feature informs small-craft chart users of areas that are safe for recreational scuba diving1.
First, a Small Craft Chart template is added to the list of available Paper Chart templates through the Admin Tools application.
Second, in Source Editor, a feature (such as Safe Diving Zone) is linked to the Small Craft Charts template through the Product Template attribute.
Third, when the project is opened in Paper Chart Editor or Project Editor, choose which product template to apply to the resulting product. For example, you can select either the Small Craft chart template or the standard Paper Chart template in the Select Project dialog box.
Finally, a small craft chart is created. The chart displays features such as Safe Diving Zone that were assigned the Product Template attribute. Other features for which the product template is not defined are also included in the chart. Features assigned the Small Craft Product Template attribute are excluded from charts that are not based on that template. If a Mapping Rule file was specified with the product template then features are converted using those rules.
