The Reorient Boxes command is used to change the orientation of the currently selected shoal box(es). During this process, the shoal boxes in all affected groups are recreated to match the selected alignment or orientation.

Shoal boxes can be aligned with an alignment in the reference model or with a specific angle. When using an alignment, the shoal boxes will be parallel to the direction of the selected alignment. When using an angle, the shoal boxes will be aligned using azimuth values (North = 0 degrees, East = 90 degrees). In the example below, three shoal boxes have been reoriented at an angle of 80 degrees.

When reorienting a shoal box, all boxes within the shoal group will automatically be reoriented, so it is not necessary to select all of the boxes within a group. If you wish to reorient boxes in multiple groups, you must select at least one box from each group. To determine which boxes are included in a group, select the shoal boxes in question and view the Collection Feature ID value for each shoal box in the Selection window. For more information on shoal groups, see Group Areas.

Because each shoal box encompasses a different area of the shoals after being reoriented, the number of boxes may increase or decrease as necessary to ensure all shoal areas are covered.

Any merges that were performed previously on the selected boxes will be undone by reorienting the boxes because new shoal boxes will be created for the affected groups.

If necessary, the reorientation can be reversed using the Undo command.

Interface

The Reorient Boxes command uses the following dialog box.

Option

Description

Station catalouge

The station catalogue that was used to detect the shoals. When the shoals were detected, a specific station catalogue was used to determine reference depth and orientation. The same station catalogue must be used when reorienting the shoal boxes. By default, the last selected station catalogue will be selected in the dialog box.

The drop-down list is populated with all station catalogues in the currently open reference model.

Use alignment

Select this option to reorient the shoal boxes using an alignment. When this option is selected, the list of alignments is enabled, populated with the alignments in the selected station catalogue. Select the alignment to use for the orientation.

Use azimuth

Select this option to reorient the shoal boxes using an azimuth angle. When this option is selected, the degrees field is enabled, populated with the current azimuth value of the selected shoal box. If multiple shoal boxes are selected, it is the azimuth value of the first shoal group selected. Enter the degree of the azimuth angle to use for the orientation of the shoal boxes.

Automatic shoal merging

Automatically merge boxes during reorientation if the rotation will result in small shoal boxes. If using this option, you must specify the minimum size for the boxes. Anything smaller than the specified size will be merged.

Minimum depth precision

The number of decimal places to include in the Minimum depth (shldep) attribute value of shoal boxes. The default value is 2.

Procedure

1. Select the Shoal Boxes layer in the Layers window.

2. Select one or more shoal boxes in the Display window.

3. Select the Reorient Boxes command.

The Reorient Boxes dialog box is displayed.

4. Select an Orientation option.

5. Either select the alignment with which to align or enter an azimuth value.

6. Specify any other necessary options.

7. Click OK.

The selected shoal boxes are reoriented.
