Onboard360 : Onboard360 Installation and Setup : Installing a Base Map

Installing a Base Map

The Onboard Control Centre displays a reference map in the background of the web map viewer when viewing tracklines as they are being processed. By default, the referene map is provided by a connection to OpenStreetMap. When no internet is available, different background data is needed offline. For this purpose, a separate installation is available for download from the Teledyne CARIS Customer Service Web site that will add a base map to your Onboard installation. This installation adds a CSAR image file, BaseMap.csar, to the following folder in the Onboard installation directory:

C:\ProgramData\CARIS\Onboard\BaseMap

The Onboard service will need to be restarted in order for the Control Centre to recognize the new files.

Once installed, this file is available for use as the reference map and will be included in the layers list in the top-right corner of the web map viewer. When turned on, the BaseMap.csar file will be displayed as the reference map for the web map viewer.

The installed reference map file can be replaced with a CSAR image of your choosing, if desired. To replace the file, both the .csar and the .csar0 files of the replacement reference map must be copied to the BaseMap directory and renamed to BaseMap.csar. Before this can be done, however, the existing BaseMap.csar files must be renamed or moved to a different location.

Administrator permissions are generally required to make changes to files in the installation directory.

To alter the files in the installation directory, the Control Centre must be closed and the Onboard service must be stopped to unlock the original files. Once the new files have been copied to the installation directory, the Onboard service and Control Centre can be restarted.
