Pop-up | database connection item > Export Feature Type Portrayal (Project window) |
The Export Feature Type Portrayal command is used to create a portrayal file from a BDB Server database connection item in the Project window.
A portrayal file is an XML format file that contains display property settings for the colour, thickness, style, etc. to use when displaying database objects. When a user connects to a database, these display properties are applied to the view, ensuring that all users have the desired display settings when working with a specific set of data.
The portrayal file is created by exporting the feature type-based styles of the catalogue uploaded to the database to which the user is connected. Styles are exported for each feature type on each filtered layer in the database. If a feature type is present on more than one filtered layer, it will be recognized as a duplicate and skipped during export. A warning message will be reported in the Output window if this happens.
This process generates a protrayal file with a .styles file extension and is named according to the database connection item by default. This file can be applied to a database using the Upload Portrayal command in the BDB Server Administration Tools.
This functionality is only available for BDB Server databases; other database formats are not supported. |
A report of the number of feature types exported is displayed in the Output window when the export is complete.
