A portrayal file can be uploaded to a database to control the initial view of database objects for all users who connect to the database.

A portrayal file is an XML format file that contains display property settings for the colour, thickness, style, etc. to use when displaying database objects. This file can have an extension of either .xml or .styles. When a user connects to a database, these display properties are applied to the view, ensuring that all users have the desired display settings when working with a specific set of data.

The portrayal settings can be changed when connecting to the database in BASE Manager, if needed. When creating a database connection using the Open Connection command in BASE Manager, the Add Connection wizard provides a Properties table where you can adjust the display properties settings for the saved connection. Once connected to the database, these settings can also be changed in the Properties window and saved to a project for future use. See the BASE Editor documentation for more information.

A portrayal file cannot be downloaded from a database before a portrayal has been uploaded to it.
