vector or coverage data > Add Layer (Project window)

Layers can be added to the Layers window using the Add Layer command on the right-click menu in both the Layers window and the Project window.

Versions and availability of the Add Layer command vary depending on the type of data you are adding and the window from which the command was accessed.

For a HOB file layer, this command provides a menu of filter commands that can be used to create a display layer:

Add New Layer By Attribute Value

Add New Layer by Feature Acronym

Add New Layer by Feature Object ID

Add New Layer by Feature Type

Add New Layer by Unique Feature Acronyms

Add New Layer by Rule File

Rule Wizard

For other vector data formats, such as shapefile, GeoPackage, reference models and database objects, this command provides the Filter or Classification commands, which are used to specify filter criteria for the new display layer. See Filter and Classification.

For coverages, this command is available only from the Project window, where it can be used to:

add a display layer for any of the bands present in the coverage.

add the default display layer for a coverage source. The default display layer is added to the Layers window when the coverage is opened in the application. This layer represents the primary elevation band of the coverage. This is useful if the default display layer has been removed from the Layers window, or if a second copy of the layer is required. Default layers can be added for more than one coverage source at a time.

display the Bounding Polygon layer that is created for all .csar files, but is not displayed by default.

More information on layers and the variations of this command can be found in Layers Window.

Procedure: Selected Band

1. Select a coverage source in the Project window.

2. Click the expansion arrow beside the coverage source.

3. Click the expansion arrow beside the Bands item now visible in the Project window.

4. Right-click the desired band and select Add Layer.

The layer is added to the Layers window. The new layer will be named according to the coverage source and the name of the selected band. For example, if the Std_Dev band was added from a coverage named RasterSurface, the resulting layer would be named RasterSurface - Std_Dev.

Procedure: Coverage Source

1. Select a coverage source in the Project window.

2. Press and hold the <Ctrl> key.

3. (Optional) Click each additional coverage source for which a layer is to be added.

4. Release the <Ctrl> key.

5. Right-click one of the selected coverage sources and select Add Layer.

A new group is added to the Layers window containing the default display layer for each selected coverage source. The group will be named according to the date the layers were added.
