Import survey data from the following file formats:
Format | Extension |
|---|---|
C&C (C&C Binary XYZ Format) | .bin |
CRS (PFM-Extract ASCII Format) | .crs |
GSF (Generic Sensor Format) | .gsf |
FAU | .fau |
HOB (Hydrographic Object Binary) | .hob |
HTF (Hydrographic Transfer Format) | .htf |
HYD93 (an exchange format developed by the National Geophysical Data Center) | .a93, .b93 |
LAS (ASPRS lidar data exchange format) | .las, .laz |
NTX (CARIS interchange file format)* | .ntx |
RDP (Random Data Points file) | .rdp |
XYZ (a text file with X-Y-Z coordinates and attributes) | .txt, .xyz, .ascii, .csv |
CSAR (CARIS Spatial Archive) | .csar |
* Files in this format from both Windows and UNIX are supported.
The Import Wizard produces new CSAR files to allow efficient processing of the data in the selected source files. If the source data is fairly dense (for example, in most multibeam or lidar surveys), it is probably desirable to down-sample it to a produce a grid. If the source data is less dense (for example, in single beam surveys) or if you are unsure about density, it is probably desirable to import all of the data as points in a Point Cloud. Upon import, the data may be examined and reimported using different options (if necessary) or a TIN model may be created.
If you have a license for the Engineering Analysis ModuleTM (EAMTM) and a reference model is open, then you have additional options to grid relative to a model, either using mean weighted gridding, or with a bias for the data that is farthest from the model planes or the farthest above the model planes (in the direction of the planar normal). For more information, see Vertical and Inclined Surface Analysis in the CARIS Engineering Analysis Module Reference Guide.
The number and type of dialog boxes displayed in the wizard are determined by the data format being imported.
1. Select the Import Wizard command.
The Import Wizard is launched. Refer to the linked topics for information on each of the steps in the wizard.
