Temporary New Features

A temporary new feature is used to indicate that certain features are temporary. The features will only exist between the start and end dates defined for the temporary feature. Temporary new features have no geometry and behave like collection objects.

Example

A set of buoys are temporarily added between June 23 and June 25 2019 for a boating event. New buoy objects are created at the given locations then related to a temporary new feature with startDate=20190623 and endDate=20190625.

Create

1. Create a new feature or features. as described in Create Features in the HPD User Guide.

In the above example, you would create the set of buoys.

2. Select the new features.

3. Select the Create Collection command.

4. Select the collection acronym tmpnew from the list and click OK.

5. In the Attributes window, set the start date and end date.

6. Save the product then export it.

The features in the tmpnew collection will only be visible between the start and end dates you set.

Export

When the product is exported all current temporary changes will be applied to the related features. The original features in the product will not be changed. Only the exported file will contain the applied changes.

If the current date falls between the start and end date of the temporary feature, the change will be applied.

A summary of temporary additions, deletions and changes will be displayed the Output window:

2 temporary addition(s) applied.

3 temporary deletion(s) applied.

5 temporary change(s) applied.

1 temporary addition(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

2 temporary deletion(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

2 temporary change(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

If a change is not applied, a message like this will be displayed:

1 temporary change(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.
