A project file is a snapshot of all open sources at a particular time. It contains a list of the sources and their related data. Properties for project items, including the last geographic extents of the view, are displayed in the Properties window.

When a project is opened, all data sources saved in the project are opened. If available, a project user file associated with the project file is used to apply the following additional settings when the project is opened.

which layer is active

which layers are visible in the active 2D Display window

the coordinate reference system (CRS) of the active 2D Display window

the zoom level of the active 2D Display window

the center coordinate of the active 2D Display window

Procedure

1. Select the Open Project command.

2. Select the relevant project file (.project) and click Open.

The selected project file is opened. The data and the Display window should be in the same state they had been in when the project was last saved.
