Extract
(root layer)

Extract a portion of a raster surface or point cloud to create a new surface with the selected attributes.

When extracting from a point cloud or variable resolution surface, points with a status value of Rejected are not extracted.

Interface: Extract Surface

Extracting can be done by digitizing a line around an area to extract the data within, or outside, the digitized line. Extracting can also be done by applying a feature layer containing coverage features for the desired area(s).

In either method, the following dialog box is used.

Enable filters to extract only specific data from the selected area. Only the nodes within the selected area that meet the conditions will be extracted.

For example, with the depth units set to Metres, if you only want nodes with a Depth value of less than 8 metres, you would:

Double-click Depth in the Available Attributes list to add it to the filter.

Use the keyboard and/or filter buttons to add “ < 8" after the attribute (including the spaces).

The resulting filter displayed in the field will be “Depth < 8".

Attributes

Attributes associated with the selected surface are displayed. The values of attributes selected here will be present in the extracted surface.

1. Select the attributes to include in the extracted surface.

The primary Z layer (Depth, Height, etc.) is mandatory and cannot be turned off. Also, any Designated points within the extents of the feature layer will automatically be included in the extraction.

Enable filter

1. Select select the Enable Filter option and enter the filter conditions.

Feature layer > Name

The names of the open feature layers. Select the layer to use to define the extract area.

Output surface

The location and file name for the Output Surface.

Extract data

Include or exclude the surface data within the digitized area.

If you select Outside the boundary, only data outside the digitized line would be extracted, resulting in a surface with a hole in it.
