New Surface By Digitizing

Menu

Create > New Model Feature > Surface > By Digitizing

Tool

This tool is used to select positions in the Display window to create points for a surface.

A surface must be made up of at least three points. The points must be selected in a complete circular order and the resulting surface must be planar. If no point exists in an area you select, a point will be created at that location and will be included in the list of points used to create the new surface. For more information about surfaces, see Surfaces.

Procedure

1. Select the (New Feature, Surface) By Digitizing command.

The pointer changes to indicate surface digitizing is enabled.

2. In the Display window, click the position for each point you want to include in the surface in the order you want to add them.

The Pan and Zoom commands can be used if you need to adjust the display. See the Pan Mode and Zoom In / Zoom Out topics for more information.

Thin lines are displayed between the points.

3. [Optional] Press <Delete> any time before saving to remove the last surface point selected.

4. Press <End> to complete the surface.

The new surface is listed in the Model window, and the surface name is displayed in the Identification tab of the Model Feature window. You can now define any holes that may be present in the surface and assign depths to the points that make up the surface. See Add or Edit Surface Holes and Define Surface Depths for more information

If necessary, you can add, remove, or sort the surface points using the Spatial tab, see Modify a Surface for more information.
