A variety of commands and methods are available for navigating the 2D View.
Navigating with the Mouse
The table below describes the functions that can be performed in the Display window using the mouse buttons.
Mouse Button | Description |
Left | • Click to select a single feature, node or point. • Click and drag to select multiple features, nodes or points. |
Middle | • Click and drag up, down, left or right to pan the display in the desired direction; the cursor changes to a “pan cursor”. • Rotate forward to zoom in or rotate backward to zoom out (if the mouse has a wheel). |
Right | • Display a context-sensitive pop-up menu. |
Navigating with the Keyboard
The table below describes the functions that can be performed in the Display window using the keyboard.
Keyboard Key | Description |
| Pan the view up, down, left or right. The Pan Factor in the General category of Tools > Options controls how much the view is panned with each click. |
Ctrl + Ctrl + | Zoom in or out of the display. The Zoom Factor in the General category of Tools > Options controls how much the view is zoomed with each click. |
<F5> | Redraw the current view of the data in the Display window. |
<F9> | Draw the display at the full extent of all open data. |
<F11> | Display the application in full-screen view. |
More specifically, the <Esc> key on the keyboard can be used to perform the following actions:
• Cancel the current cursor control. For example, if you select an area on which to zoom in, and then change your mind about performing the zoom, you can press the <Esc> key to cancel that action. However, you can only cancel an operation before you release the left mouse button. The <Esc> key does not cancel the action if it is already under way or completed.
• Close any dialog box in the application. Press this key when a dialog box is active—the dialog box will close immediately.
• Cancel drawing in the Display window. Press this key when the current operation in the Status bar reads "Drawing..." and the drawing will be cancelled immediately.
Navigating with the View Commands
In the View menu, there are numerous commands that allow the display to be zoomed, panned, centred and refreshed. The View toolbar and right-click pop-up menu of the Display window also provide several of the commands available in the View menu. Refer to Additional Tools for a list of commands in the View menu and links to instructions for each command.
