Set Initial Cover From Current View

File > Project > Set Initial Cover Current View

Save the current view in the Display window as the initial extents of a project. When the project is opened, this extents will be displayed.

This is useful, for example, when creating a new feature layer. If no project is open, a new feature must have coordinates entered,

This command offers an alternative to typing in

We have standard controls for selecting view extents that I would expect to be used here - coordinates can be typed in, or the current display extents used, or a subset of the current display extents. Obviously, we would not need to set these extents - they would be optional.

If these view extents existed and were set, this would simplify use of some functionality. When creating a new feature layer (e.g. in BE) or a new reference model (in RME), if no data is open, we require the user to specify extents. This is very manual and not even used for anything of consequence - just setting the initial view extents, nothing to do with the data at all. If the desired initial view extents were saved in application settings, these steps would not be necessary - these saved view extents could be used by default instead. While I do not know how often our users create new files and have to set extents, I know I do it frequently (e.g. when using the OIU), and it would save me time/effort to only set it once and have it be remembered.
