Engineering Analysis : Creating and Modifying Model Features : Import HOB Surfaces

Import HOB Surfaces

This command allows HOB file data to be imported into a new reference model that can be opened in other CARIS products. This procedure reads the data in a HOB file and maps it to reference model feature types (templates, surfaces, points, etc.) using a catalogue matching file.

A catalogue matching file must be setup to select and import the feature object types in your HOB file. If an acronym is specified in the matching file that does not exist in the HOB file, that acronym will be skipped during import. See Create a Catalogue Matching file for more information on matching files.

To import HOB data as a reference model:

1. Open a HOB file containing the data that you want to import.

2. Select the Open HOB Surfaces as Model command.

Menu

Model > Open HOB Surfaces as Model

The Import HOB Surfaces as Reference Model dialog box is displayed.

The Reference model group of fields allows you to define settings for the resulting reference model. The Catalogue matching file group of fields allows you to specify how the import will be performed.

3. Click the Reference Model Browse button (...) to select the directory in which to create the new reference model.

4. Enter a name for the reference model.

5. Click the Coordinate system Browse button (...) to select the output coordinate system.

To map the HOB data to reference model features, a catalogue matching file must be specified. This file tells the application which feature object acronyms to look for and what they should be transformed into. You have the option of using a custom matching file, or using the default settings.

6. Select a Catalogue matching file option.

7. [Optional] If you chose a custom file, click the Browse button (...) for the Use option and select the file.

8. Click OK.

The dialog box will be closed and a progress bar will display in the Status bar until the import is complete. The data in the HOB file is imported into a new reference model according to the settings defined in the mapping file.
