The Template from Existing Surfaces command is used to create a new template using existing surfaces.
To create a template one or more surfaces must be available. For more information about templates, see Templates.
Menu | Model > New Feature > Template > From Existing Surfaces |
Tool |
|
Pop-up | Create New Template |
1. Select the (New Feature, Template) From Existing Surfaces command.
The New Template dialog box is displayed.

The dialog box displays all existing surfaces for the currently open reference model.
Templates should not have overlapping surfaces. If the templates have overlapping surfaces, they are "incomplete" and cannot be used in calculations until the overlaps are resolved. When a reference model with an incomplete template is loaded in BASE Editor, a warning is displayed in the Output window. |
2. [Optional] To display only previously selected surfaces, select the Only selected items option.
3. Press and hold the <Ctrl> key, then select the surfaces to include in the new template;
OR,
if the surfaces are selected (using one of the selection tools), choose the Only selected items option.
4. Click OK.
The new template is shown in the Display window.

5. [Optional] Edit the template’s default name by typing a new value in the Name field of the Model Feature window and pressing <Enter>.
6. [Optional] Type a Description for the template and press <Enter>.
The template and all its parameters are now defined. The Display window is refreshed to display the new template.
