Open Surfaces from Database

The Open Surfaces from Database command allows a user to work with a database surface on a local machine.

When accessing surfaces on the database, users are normally only allowed to access the bounding polygon and the surface attributes. By opening the database surface using BASE Editor, the surface data is displayed and made available. For example, if you were to connect to a database and click the surface, the only selectable item would be the boundary polygon. When opening the surface using this command, clicking selects a node or other data in the surface.

To open database surfaces locally:

1. Connect to a database that contains a surface. See Connect to a Database for more information.

2. Apply and/or select the relevant database query layer.

3. Click in the Display window and select one or more surfac objects.

4. Do one of the following:

If you chose one surfac object, select the (Open Surfaces from Database) Superselection command.

If you chose multiple surfac objects, select the (Open Surfaces from Database) Selection command.

The surfaces are opened in the Layers window as child layers of the database query layer.

If the OBJNAM attribute for the selected surfac object is not populated, the BOID value (Object ID for database objects) will be used as the layer name. This value will also be used if the surface is exported or extracted.

For the opened surfac object, a message is displayed indicating the start and end times of the process.

The data for the object can now be viewed and edited.
