Procedure

1. Select the Create Sounding Feature command.

The Attributes dialog box is displayed.

2. Set any necessary attributes.

You can enter the coordinates and depth in the dialog box or digitize the point after you click OK.

 

If you select Geographic, the position is in Latitude and Longitude. If you select Ground, the position is in Eastings and Northings.

Geographic coordinates can be added in the following formats:

• Degrees and decimals. For example, 35.34567W.

• Degrees and minutes. For example, 35‑23.87654N.

• Degrees, minutes and seconds. For example, 34-43-21.33455S.

Ground coordinates are added in the units specified on the Display Units tab of the Options dialog box.

Both coordinates must be entered.

3. [Optional] Enter the coordinates:

• Select the coordinate type: Geographic or Ground.

• Type the coordinates.

4. [Optional] Type the depth in metres.

Depth can be positive or negative. A negative value indicates a drying height.

If you do not enter a depth value, a default of 0 is used. You can change this later using the Coordinates window.

5. Click OK.

If you did not enter the coordinates, the cursor changes (  ).

6. Click at the location of the sounding.

If Repeat New Feature is on, you can add more soundings without reselecting the command.

To add a second sounding with the same depth as the first:

1. Click at a new location.

To add a second sounding with a new depth:

1. Press <Backspace> once for each digit in the current depth.

2. Type a new depth.

You will not see anything change on-screen as you do this.

3. Click at a new location.

A sounding with the new depth is added.

Sounding display is based on the sounding rounding rule selected in the Options dialog box.
