CARIS HPD : Command Reference : V : Validation : S-58 Edition 7.0 ENC Validation Workflow : Step 4: Other ENC-Related Checks

Step 4: Other ENC-Related Checks

This step is optional. There is no need to run these tests for your ENC datasets to comply with S-58 Edition 7.0. However, these tests could be used if you consider it necessary or if you wish to execute any custom written organization-specific checks.

General S-57 tests

If desired, run general S-57 tests (that is, non-S-58 tests) to ensure that the ENC is as correct and complete as possible.

These tests are in the Customized QC Tests list.

1. Run these Customized QC Tests individually or together:

ENC Master Features to Conflate

General ENC Metadata Tests

General S-57 Feature Tests

General S-57 Soundings Tests

General S-57 Spatial Relationship Tests

2. Review the validation report.

If any issues are reported, correct them, then repeat these checks until no issues remain.

S-58 7.0 Level 1-7 customized QC tests

If required, check all issues tested by S-58 7.0 Level 1-7 Customized QC Tests.

It is no longer necessary to execute the seven sets of related S-58 customized QC tests – these test are now executed by the S-58 Critical Error, S-58 Error and S‑58 Warnings tests.

1. Select and execute these individually or together:

S-58 7.0 Level 1 Feature Tests

S-58 7.0 Level 2 Spatial Tests

S-58 7.0 Level 3 Spatial Relationships

S-58 7.0 Level 4 Feature Relationships

S-58 7.0 Level 5 Metadata (General)

S-58 7.0 Level 6 Product Metadata

S-58 7.0 Level 7 Catalogue Tests

2. Review the validation report.

If any issues are reported, correct them, then repeat the tests until no issues remain.

Organization-specific customized QC tests

If applicable, run your own customized organization-specific QC tests:

1. Select and run your tests individually or together.

2. Review the validation report.

If any issues are reported, correct them, then repeat the tests until no issues remain.

Now re-check all aspects of the ENC:

It is not expected that edits made in Step 3 will introduce new issues, but it is best to confirm it by re-running all tests from step 1 on.

It is essential that the S-58 Critical Errors test passes.

Some S-58 errors and warnings can be ignored.
