Merge areas that share edges, feature acronyms and attributes. A single new area is created and the original areas are deleted. The merged area is assigned a new feature object ID but the acronym and attributes remain the same.

Areas that are in the selection but which do not match other areas are unchanged. Any non-area features in the selection are ignored.

If the original features are part of a database, they are moved to the Deleted Features layer. They must be certified before they are permanently deleted.

If the original features are part of a stand-alone file, they are permanently deleted.

Procedure

1. Select two or more areas.

2. Select the Merge Matching Areas command.

Any matching areas in the selection are merged. Areas that do not match other areas are unchanged.

The results are displayed in the Output window.
