Create S-57 Product from Multiple S-57 Datasets

This command is only available in Product Editor if the S-57 Composer module is enabled. See Modules for further information

Create a stand-alone product by combining data from two S‑57 or HOB files.

A stand-alone product does not retain any connection to its source dataset, if any. You cannot update a stand-alone product from source.

The product extent is determined by one of these methods:

• The greater extent of the two files.

• The extent of the first file

• The extent of a feature in the first file.

To use the third method, you might want to define the feature and its extent before using this command. For example, a meta feature (such as, M_SREL) can be used to clip the product.

Interface

Option	Description
Primary Data File	The base file. • File: The name and location of the dataset. • Feature Mapping Rule File: If you have to map the files from one format to another, select the mapping file from the list.
Secondary Data File	• File: The name and location of the dataset. • Feature Mapping Rule File: If you have to map the files from one format to another, select the mapping file from the list.
Clipping	Clip the data in the secondary file according to the extent or content of the primary file.. • Clip to Primary Data Extent: The secondary file is clipped using a rectangle equal to the extent of the primary file. • Clip to Template Object: The secondary file is clipped using one or more features from the primary file as templates. Choose a feature from the Template Object list, select an attribute acronym from the Attribute list, then type a value in the Value field • Do Not Clip: The extent covers both files.

Primary Data File

Clipping

Clip the data in the secondary file according to the extent or content of the primary file..

• Clip to Primary Data Extent: The secondary file is clipped using a rectangle equal to the extent of the primary file.

• Clip to Template Object: The secondary file is clipped using one or more features from the primary file as templates. Choose a feature from the Template Object list, select an attribute acronym from the Attribute list, then type a value in the Value field

• Do Not Clip: The extent covers both files.

This dialog box is a new Step 1 added to the beginning of the wizard. This means that the step numbers will not match the numbers in the instructions.

Procedure

1. Select the Create S-57 Product from Multiple S-57 Datasets command.

Step 1 of the Create S-57 Produce wizard is displayed.

2. Select the primary file.

If the file is an S-57 file, you are prompted to select the update folder.

3. Do one of the following:

• If updates should be applied, select the appropriate folder and click OK.

• If updates will not be applied, click Cancel.

If the file is a HOB file, the Select Catalogue dialog box is displayed.

4. Select a catalogue from the Name list and click OK.

5. Select the secondary file.

6. If necessary, select the update folder or the catalogue as described above.

7. Set any other necessary options.

8. Click Next.

The next step of the wizard is displayed.

Follow the instruction in Create S-57 Product Wizard. Note that the step numbers will not match the basic wizard because of the extra Step 1.

9. Click Finish.

The new product is created and listed in the Layers window. It is composed of two layers, one that contains the features and one that contains the product boundary (PROLAY) feature.

Important: Save the new product before modifying it.
