Menu | Create > Image > For Selection |
Add an image as an annotation to a selected feature. The image is inserted as a separate cartographic image ($image) feature, but is automatically linked to the feature as an annotation.
The following example shows an image annotation for a landmark feature (LNDMRK).

The relationship between feature and image annotations is controlled through the image annotations file (image_annotations.xml). The default location of the file is ..\Program Files\CARIS\HPD\<version>\system\PCEConfig\annotations.
For more information on the image annotations file, see Portrayal.
The following conditions must be before using this command:
• Image is in TIFF format.
• Iimage is stored in a directory referenced by the external files environment variable. The default setting is C:\Users\All Users\CARIS\HPD\<version>\system\ExternalFiles
• Feature to which the image is associated is listed in the image annotations file.
• Feature has been linked with the image through a feature attribute. This is usually PICREP, but any attribute listed in the image annotations file can be used.
• Image annotations file is included in the annotation control file. See Portrayal for more information.

2. Select a feature in the Panel data layer.
3. Select the Create Image For Selection command.
The image is inserted into the panel according to settings in the image annotations file.
Two annotation attributes for the $image feature now contain values:
• The $anofn (Annotation File Name) attribute contains the file name of the image that is used as an annotation.
• The $anoac (Annotation Acronym) attribute contains the attribute of the selected feature that contains the file name of the image (i.e., PICREP).
The Relations window shows that the image is linked to the feature as an annotation.
